I live in California. Currently my employee handbook states 32hrs/week is considered full time and therefore have health and dental benefits. I just announced to my employer that I'm pregnant and will be due in August '05.
Last week when I discussed with our office manager I was considering lightening my schedule from 40hrs/week to 32hrs/week, the office manager informed me my boss is currently considering changing our office policy such that 32hrs/week will only be considered part-time employment and therefore NO health or dental insurance will be provided.
It looks to me my employer is more interested in financial gain than health of the pregnant employee. Is it unlawful for her to change the office policy now since i just announed my pregnancy?
