well...i am just wondering if there is a certain amount of time per day that you can work, until you reach overtime or is it just a weekly 40 hours?

In Michigan overtime begins after 40 hours are "physically" worked during the course of the workweek. The workweek is a predefined 7 day period. It does not have to be a calendar week; but it's the 7 day period that your company uses to determine if overtime is worked. This is true for non-exempt workers as defined under FLSA only. If you are exempt under FLSA, there are no circumstances that you'd be entitled to overtime pay when it's worked.

The only states where overtime has to be calculated on a daily basis are California, Alaska, Nevada, and in some (but not all) circumstances Colorado.
