View Full Version : Different state, change in support? New York

My ex-wife is moving from NY to VT. I have two wonderful daughters who are 19 and 20, and in NY I pay 25% of my gross salary for child support. In VT, this is not done after the child reaches 18.

I'd much rather send them money directly, rather than to my cheating ex-wife (who's pocketing most of the support anyway.)

My question is this: if she moves to a different state with different laws, does my child support agreement in NYS still stand, or do we come up with one according to VT law?

If you still live in NY the existing order will stand.

Even if the order can be transferred, the laws from original state will apply and you'll still have to pay CS according to NY laws.
