I work for a hotel with 130 rooms total and am one of the two managers. It is two separate franchises so that's why there are two managers. I work sixteen hours a day seven days a week and if I'm lucky I might get one day a month off. Any errands I have to run I have to do before I come to work. My salary comes out to 338.00 every two weeks and as I live on property, my room and a half is supposed to be included in my salary. It is not listed on my check which I have been told it is supposed to be. The other manager works a normal 40 hour week and gets regular days off and has a two story apartment for him and his family. My question is, can my boss work me like this? I feel like I'm being treated like a slave and I'm supposed to be a robot, not needing sleep, food or bathroom breaks, let alone having any type of life. I also feel like it is because I am a white female and not from India like them. Any help or advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated

Salary is just a pay method. Under FLSA you are either exempt or non-exempt. If by salary you mean exempt, there should be no expectation for additional compensation for overtime hours worked.

In order to qualify as exempt, there is a minimum salary requirement of $455 per week. If the combination of your housing and cash wages is less than this amount, then the salary requirement would not be met and you're FLSA categorization would automatically revert to non-exempt (making you eligible for overtime when it's worked).

From you post, it just sounds as if the manager for the other franchise owner is pro-employee; whereas your boss is not. Sorry!

And it also sounds like you will have no life working this position. How long are you going to keep up like this?
