I am a federal employee, I have paid child support for 7 years now. I am having some financial problems and continue to pay a portion of child support every pay. The x has threaten to garnish my wages. How does this work and what is the max that she can garnish from my pay check.

The maximum garnishment allowed is found in the Federal laws- the consumer credit protection act- title 15 chapter 41 http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/#TITLES

Are you having financial problems due to something that you had no control over (such as illness, injury, etc)? If so, you might need to file for a modification, even if it's only temporary.
