I am curious about procedure for reporting someone (business and an individual) who may be breaking the child labor law. There is a restaurant (locally)that employs a 12 year old boy to bus tables, paying him $6/hr, and as I understand it, under the table, as he is paid in cash for the time he works. He works on Friday nights from 4-10 PM. The person who brought him into this situation is a relative in a mangement position.

Please advise as to the legalities in this situation.

Thanks for your help.

I would contact your states Department of Labor, and you could even report it to the I.R.S, because it is against the law to pay anyone under the table, and get away with not paying for taxes, social security, etc. The boy is to young to be working period!

Actually, if this is the child of the owner, the child labor laws may not apply. And the tax laws definitely wouldn't apply. You can contact the state Dept. of Labor if you wish to inquire about the first issue.
