I've worked for a company for a while and I hold a Supervisory Position as a Director of Marketing at this company. There is an employee, that holds a position in the work place where she is responsible for Billing and Human resources. Many employees as well as myself consistantly have to deal with her behavior in the work place. On numerous occasions she has called me an A-hole in front of other employees when I've confronted her about her work ethics in the work place like skipping work to go shopping and disappearing for 2 or more hours. She is not only rude to myself and other employees but she harrasses them on a daily basis. We've all complained about her in some form or another. However, when we've confronted the Administrator about these problems, He refuses to address them in any way. She's worked for the company for over 4 years and continues to be ensobardant to those that hold a supervisory position such as myself. I'm filing a formal complaint with the Administrator to place in her file. She continues to find ways to harrass me and threaten my job. She makes me feel uncomfortable in the work place and talks about me to other employee that fall under "defamation" of character laws. I would like to know your veiws on "hostile" work environments, ensobordanation, Harrassment, and "defamation" of charactor in the work place. Thank you

The phrase, hostile work environment, has a very specific meaning under the law and what you have posted does not meet it.

Likewise, nothing you have posted meets the legal definition of either illegal harassment or defamation of character.

It's a shame that the administrator is unwilling to deal with this, but he is not obligated to do so under the law. The rude manager is not breaking the law; there are no laws prohibiting rudeness or making it illegal to be a jerk.
