My 21 year old daughter joined a friend at a summer camp counselor job after they became short handed. She faxed her application and was accepted, in other words it was never a volunteer position. She stayed one month then after numerious problems three of them quit. The friend had orginally signed a contract that required her to repay triaining cost and a penality if she quit early. Not really contesting that although its petty. My daughter never signed a contract nor was paid there although they said $20 a day. After the regular pay day past, we politely contacted them, they said oh no contract was signed but then sent a check 2.30 hr $400 took out taxes etc and $100 for reembursement, no explaination. I think they are trying to say its for room and board-their employment ads on the web all state free room and board. I know wage laws exempt them from miniumum wage and allow for some compensations but I feel in this case there was no agreement and they are just being vindictive. Does she have a case to file?
