I was fired today b/c I have a felony on my record. I was convicted after I had already been employed with the company for over 3 years. I was only sentenced to probation. By law, can they legally terminate me?

What was the felony and does it have anything to do with your job?

Why would the nature of the felony be important?

If he lives in an at will state, the company can term him for any or no reason.

In some states there are laws limiting an employer's right to term/not hire based on arrest or conviction record.

However, North Carolina is not one of them. In NC, yes, this was a legal termination.

Do you happen to know of a website(s) that would give more information on each state's laws regarding this subject?

Start with the DOL for each state. There isn't one site that outlines each state's policy on this that I know of.
