I was fired today b/c I have a felony on my record. I was convicted after I had already been employed with the company for over 3 years. I was only sentenced to probation. By law, can they legally terminate me?

Curious0608 08-24-2006, 03:11 PM I accidentally selected the wrong state..I live in North Carolina and not New York ElleMD 08-24-2006, 03:13 PM What was the felony and does it have anything to do with your job? cyjeff 08-24-2006, 07:16 PM Why would the nature of the felony be important? If he lives in an at will state, the company can term him for any or no reason. cbg 08-25-2006, 05:04 AM In some states there are laws limiting an employer's right to term/not hire based on arrest or conviction record. However, North Carolina is not one of them. In NC, yes, this was a legal termination. pacoman 08-25-2006, 11:31 AM In some states there are laws limiting an employer's right to term/not hire based on arrest or conviction record. Do you happen to know of a website(s) that would give more information on each state's laws regarding this subject? ElleMD 08-25-2006, 11:35 AM Start with the DOL for each state. There isn't one site that outlines each state's policy on this that I know of. * Find more information on Hiring. |
