Ok, I live in lets just say a sardine can of an apartment. I have had all kinds of problems (Maint.) since I have been living here. I had a momentary lapse in judgement, and decided to sign my lease for another year. I am 2 months into this lease, and stuff is still going wrong. My parents are moving out of my childhood home and are willing to sell it for cheap. I was planning on finding a home, and this is a wonderful opportunity. Does anyone know of a law that says that you can break your lease if you purchase a home? Any help would be appreciated. I dont mind paying the next months rent, or giving 30 days, BUT do I have to pay the rent until they find someone else to live there (they stay pretty full)

THanks in advance,
Brittany

There is no law in any states that says that you can break a lease if you buy a home -- despite a persistent myth that says otherwise. The terms under which you can break your lease are contained in the lease. If you choose to break the lease, the landlord has a duty to mitigate damages by renting the apartment as quickly as possible, but you are responsible for the rent.

I understand by the lease that was given to the renter the standards and procedures are stated. However, if a renter left do to violence or the safety of their child and did not communicate with the landlord, is there a law broken here? Or does that fall back on the lease given to the renter. Meaning, whatever was noted is how the lease will state how the renter can be leagally break it. ???
