I recently quit my job as a sub-contracted delivery driver. I quit on a Monday. When I quit my boss said that I would have to forfeit the prior week's pay because I quit with no notice. The vehicles we used for delivery belong to the contractor that hired us. A few weeks before I quit I had an accident in the van I was driving. My boss said that if I pursued the matter any further not only would he keep my one weeks pay but he'd make me pay the deductible for the accident. I can't afford to lose more money than I already have. Do I have a leg to stand on trying to get my last week's pay or should I just give up and let him keep my money?

He cannot legally refuse to pay you for time you actually worked. You can file a complaint with the state DOL for the wages he has not paid you. Note that SC has no provision for when final pay has to be released IF the employee quits.

I'll have to let one of the payroll people address the question of whether or not he can require you to pay the deductible for the accident.
