My co worker gave a notice to move out by a certain day. This was all good with her landlord. Her landlord called and asked if she could be out by a date before the original date (obviously I don't have the dates from her yet lol), so some new tenants could move in. She agreed. She moved out, and then, her landlord told her that the tenants could not move in yet, so she needs to pay for the rent up until the end of her notice. She never got it on paper that her landlord asked her to move, she only notified us at work, and others in idle conversation. She wants to fight her landlord, but with no written request for her to move out, is there really any way she could fight this? Her landlord has taken her deposit, and is asking for more because of the rent due, late fees, and she claims that she was late before so she owed late fees from that time. My co worker told me that the only time she was late was when she needed to make rent in two payments a long time ago, and that that was worked out and approved, and she didn't charge a late fee back then.
Could the landlord change her mind and just charge her for late fees now, months later? She also claimed heavy cleaning fees, and she originally told her that the cleaning fees would probably be around 60.00 She is a single very clean person with no children, no pets, etc. She claimed that the landlord is making her pay for the new paint job, which she thinks should be normal wear and tear. I think this is her story, I will let you know if I was wrong on any of this. Without the dates in hand, can you tell me based on what I have posted here, if she has any recourse in getting any of her deposit back?
