My daughter is a dental assistant, and worked for a Dentist for two days. She quit after finding out the working conditions were bad/hostile. Another employee working for the same office quit the same day who had been there for a year. The dentist is refusing to pay her for the two days of pay. What is the labor law in Arizona that states the employeer must pay her after being hired? The dentist is stating she isn't going to pay because my daughter didn't give her two week notice. Is there a board (state or federal) she file can an official complaint? The check would be for less than $200.00. However, this is a lot of money to a young person just starting out with a family. Thanks, for the assistance.
Per the BNA payroll library:
Payment on Voluntary Termination
Employers must pay employees who quit on the next regular payday. Employers can send payments by mail at the request of employees.
Penalties/Remedies
Employers that violate the wage payment law are guilty of a petty offense, punishable by a fine of up to $1,000.
Employers that fail to pay wages as required are liable for triple the amount of unpaid wages.
Alternatively, employees can file a written claim with the Labor Department if the amount of unpaid wages is $2,500 or less and the claim is filed within one year. The department can obtain judgment and receive wages on behalf of employees.

Well, DAW beat me to the punch! Your daughter's former employer cannot refuse to pay her. I was fired from a job a few years ago and the company tried to withhold my last month's salary. They refused to allow me to pick it up on my regularly scheduled payday and insisted for weeks that the check was in the mail. After informing them that I'd been in contact with the Labor Dept (and explaining the fines and penalities they were subject to for withholding my wages) they wrote me a check and hand delivered it to my home the very next day! I hope your daughter is able to rectify her situation as quickly and easily.
