I have been working at a department store for the past 15 years. Today employees received notice that as of January 1, 2007, everyone needs to wear black suits. This is for both men and women.

As a man, this means I need to buy two Black suits. Shouldn't the employer pay for the clothing they want the employees to wear? The employer will give employees a store discount, but that is not the point. Is this legal?

Please advise as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Yes, that is entirely legal. Since you will be able to wear the suits as street clothes and continue to wear them after you no longer work for the company, your employer has no legal obligation to pay for them.
