I was hired as a maintenance supervisor at an apartment complex. Since working there, the manager has constantly been harrassing me. She constantly tells me I need to get more work done and it doesn't matter that I get more and more done, it is never enough. She expects me to stay past 5 every day and then tells me I can't get overtime. I don't know what end is up. She tells me one thing and then expects something totally different.

She has made this a hostile work environment for me. When she gets mad at me, she starts threatening to fire me. The problem with not getting the work done is that they are calling me every 15 minutes to come to the office or pulling me off another job and the help they hired is not qualified to do the work and so I have to go behind her and redo most of the work or after she has been working on something for hours she can't fix, I have to come in and fix it. My manager told me not to do that anymore but if it isn't fixed then because I am the supervisor I get chewed out. Then, when someone that is under me should be written up she refuses to allow me to do it.

Here is another instance. Two months ago, I had severe stomach pain and couldn't stand it. I called my manager to let her know I would not be at work, that I was going to the Dr. I had a kidney stone and was on pain medicine and got a Dr.s note. The next day because I had been up all night, I finally got some rest and my wife called into my manager to explain that I wouldn't be in that day but everytime she called they said the manager was out and she left a message for the manager to call her back and faxed over my Dr.s excuse and once again asked her to give her a call. Then at 1:00 P.M., that day, the district manager calls my wife at work and asked her if I was coming back. My wife explained to the district manager what had been going on and she thought that I had never tried to call in. My wife then called the my manager and asked her what was up that she had talked to the district magaer and that the district manager had been told that no one called her to tell her I was going to be out. When my wife asked her about this her excuse was that she forgot because she had been too busy. This is one of many of the things she has done like this to me. When I got back, she got back on her bandwagon of treating me like dirt and tired to have me fired. Several employees have not shown up for work or called in and nothing was done. Policy is to consider that a resignation. They did not even get written up or reprimanded in any way. Not one person has been written up since I have been there except the office girl that she was doing the same thing she is doing to me. The office girl finaly quit after being treated hostile and cursed at.

Today she wrote me up for going to lunch with a contractor and then told me if I did not sign it I would be fired. Then when I asked for a copy of the write up she refused. This manager holds grudges and retaliates if I don't do things like going to social functions after work. She tells me I am not getting enough work done, she moves in new residents in before I have a chance to get them inspected and you can't do that where I live She has threatened to fire us if we don't go to things like company picnics and Christmas parties. These are not on the time clock but functions I have to attend on my own time and I know that cannot be legal.

She has even told me if an apartment did not pass inspection, she was fineing me $25. This was not told to me when I was hired, she makes up her own rules. I work hard at this complex and when I have brought up these complaints to the district manager, she sits us down and says that we need to work together but that manager at the apartment does not go by what the district manager tells her.

I feel like I don't know what I am supposed to do. I am thinking of filing a grievance with human resources. I can't take constantly being threatened with getting fired every time I turn around and the rest of the employees do less work because they are unquallified but she never writes them up or reprimands them I am the only one she constantly reprimands verbally and now today on paper.

Since our talk with the district manager I have done everything and much more besides stand on my head. Today she also wrote me up for the talk we had with the district manager a month or so ago. Why didn't she write me up at the time of the incident? Can she write me up for something now for something a month ago if she didn't do it at the time?

If I don't do exactly whay she wants, she gets mad and tries everything she can to get me to quit or get me fired. Since she cannot directly fire me, this can only be done by the district manager, she is mad and is trying to make me quit.

She tells me to control my department, but then when I tell them one thing they go to her and she lets them do it, but if I do the same thing like take an early lunch I am written up for it and they are not. I tried calling the district manager and she will not return my calls to talk about this, but then her and the manager are drinking buddies as well.

I just don't know what options are left if any. I have even tried talking to her and she always says she is too buy to talk. I have gone to the district manger and if I can finally get to her, she tells me that she is the manager and that i just need to do what the managers says. I have btought my concerns to her about being treated unfairly and feel like this is a hostile work environment.

Unless you are being subjected to either sexual harassment or illegal discrimination under Title VII (race, religion, etc.) you are not in a hostile work environment under the law. It has nothing to do with the atmosphere or your manager being unpleasant.

So basically, there is nothing I can fall back on except look for a new job.

Thanks.

Pretty much. It certainly sounds unpleasant but nothing you have posted violates any laws.
