My boyfriend and his boss live in Sacramento. At first my boyfriend was working at this man's home for him. Now he makes him work at his Napa location, sometimes drives him there after meeting up with him here in Sac and frequently wants him to stay overnight, on the property, in a substandard converted bus with no bathroom (but a dirty port-a-potty with wasp nests inside above his head) and where other people sleep in the same unchanged beds at different times so he doesn't have to travel back and forth daily. At first he paid for travel but decided not to recently. He has had my boyfriend show up, go to Napa and then not have him do any work and not pay him. I told him that all these things were violating labor laws and health and safety standards. Also he recently stepped on a nail that went through his boot and foot. He was not sent to a doctor until I insisted the following day. He couldn't work for a week while the wound healed and he could walk normal again. He has asked several times for work comp info and still, at least three weeks later still has not been given the info. HELP!

I would contact the EDD about the workers comp.
I would contact the DLSE about all the wage claims.
I would contact calosha about the conditions.
I would also make sure the site/doctor knows it's a workers comp injury.

Thanks for the advice. You mentioned a site doctor, there isn't one. He went to a clinic here in Sac the following day and was offered no follow-up and has no paperwork from the doctor. The employer has it all. The employer has nothing posted at the worksite and wasn't even going to send him for treatment until he complained the next day, after my urging to at least get a tetnus shot since he hadn't had one since childhood. I looked up some labor laws yesterday and it seems that the employer is violating several laws.

I agree. The worst, I suspect, is not having workers comp.

Well, I guess the guy claims he carries work comp insurance but hasn't given the carrier's name to my boyfriend. I keep telling him to bug the guy for the info. All week he has gone to the man's house at 7am and isn't getting back home from Napa until 7pm but this guy is only paying him for about four hours per day. I told him he is engaged to work and should get paid or it isn't even worth it to bother going. He plans to look for other work but is desparate for the money right now and this guy knows that. It is such bullsh**!
