More and more states are beginning to finally realize how interest can make it impossible for arrears to ever be paid off, or even collected. That's a good thing because alot of states now allow CSE agencies to "forgive" the interest portion if it will enable a NCP to pay off the principal arrears. Talk to CSE and they may be willing to work with you, if you have a large lump sum, offer it with the agreement that interest will be "forgiven".

Disregard any advice or false hopes that you may happen to hear of. Unfortunately, child support and interest on child support as well as fees to those agencies that collect child support has in most cases become privatized in many states. With this said, the key objective of these agencies is to PROFIT. Where does this profit come from? Federal funding based upon the actual transactions (collection of CASH child support payments).
As with any business (not for profit) these companies are in the business to be profitable. DO NOT THINK FOR ONE MOMENT THAT A *FOR PROFIT BUSINESS* WILL ALLOW YOU TO NOT PAY. INTEREST ON DELIQUENT SUPPORT PAYMENTS SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASES THEIR BOTTOM LINE.

fyi - these privately owned companies are secured by the govt. generally through solicitation or in other cases through a bid process.
BET YOU THOUGHT THE FRIEND OF THE COURT WAS ACTUALLY AN OFFICE RAN AND *OWNED* BY THE GOVT. NO! MOST ALL OF THEM ARE PRIVATE COMPANIES.

Look at it this way, if you hold a CitiBank card with a $10,000.00 credit line, you exceed that limit by a few dollars and then become unable to pay (no credit life insurance or inability insurance considered for this purpose), CHASE WOULD DO JUST AS THE F.O.C. DOES. Make you liable without exception for the entire dept! THESE ARE FOR PROFIT AGENCIES AND YOUR CHILDREN ARE THE COMMODITY
