Hi all
My mom lives in an apartment in Queens NY
The weather is hitting upper 90's and there is no central air.
You are responsible for your own air condition unit
She was told that they cannot put the air condition to the window because if the firescape(THIS IS NO WHERE IN THE LEASE)
With the hot weather...the fan is no help. And it is a heat zone in there
1st question) Can the landlord really do this? Exspect you to stay there in the summer over 100degrees temperature?
Secondly, Queens had a blackout a few weeks ago because of the weather. The lights were out for over a week :(
And when they did come up the elevators stay broken..And the floors go up to the 8th (IMAGINE WALKING 8TH FLOORS 98DEGREES)
She has repeatly written the landlord about the elevators, but he has choosen to ignore it.
Also the lease states after 3yrs he should paint the apartment, but he hasnt and ignore letters requesting it and is now 4 yrs.
Where should we start? Can he be reported? Isnt it within the laws that he has to fix these things?
CAN WE HOLD ON TO THE RENT UNTIL HE PAY?
The rent is nearly a thousand dollars for a one bedroom, so shouldnt he be liable?
Thanks
