I just got a job at a clinic where they stressed the fact that I met there qualification in many areas but, especially speaking spainish to translate. Well I personnally think its rude to speak a different language if front of other people who don't understand it. But there are sometimes just situations where people tend to speak there native language. We were told we were not allowed to speak it to eachother yet 3 of us were hired because we knew spanish. Im a grown woman and have the common sense not to be so rude and speak it in front of my non-biligual co-workers but, can they stop us from speaking it to eachother.

If there is a business reason for requiring English only while performing work, then it can be required. This does not apply to break times or times you are off the clock and not performing work. If you aren't doing it as a way of isolating others, or speaking in your other language in front of those who do not understand on purpose, it should be a non-issue.

There are places in Mexico I can't even pronounce, much less spell. If Patty moves there, I'm toast. ;)
