I am in the midst of a WC claim. I signed paperwork to allow the insurance company to review the medical history from my prior non-related injury.
This is a physical injury, RSI, Carpal Tunnel.
Could someone explain to me for what plausible reason the insurance company want with my non-related psychological records for this physical injury?
Thank you.

I'm sorry. I was parroting my doctor. You'll have to excuse me as I'm a wee bit frustrated right now.
It is more accurate to say that they are requesting psychological records based upon my release authorization for physical records.
I do not understand why they would request the psychological records for this physical injury.
This is my question. What purpose does it serve the insurance company to see mental records for physical injury claims?
Please note. There is NO claim pending for distress, mental anguish, stress, etc...
Sorry about the confusion there. Maybe a moderator can change the title? ;)
Thanks!

It isn't uncommon to request any and all records from treating providers. If you signed the release, they may request them.

Incidentally, this isn't a subpeona. If you sign a medical release, no subpeona is necessary. Had you not signed, then the records might have been subpeonaed which is a more formal process.

Right. I know that and I tried to change this thread's subject title.
I understand they are thorough and it's common. What I still don't understand is what they feel can be gained by viewing psychological records.
I'm contemplating revoking the auth but I'm not sure if that will prompt them to deny the claim. They told me that they were only looking into the previous injury records, not all records. Also, that their "authorized representative" was an internal employee, not a third party.
Still what use are my psychological records for a physical injury? It still baffles me.
Thanks for your input. :)

Not being the claims administrator on your claim, I couldn't possibly know what their intent is with the records.
If you soulght psychological treatment after a previous claim or injury, but may be necessary to determine what that was, just as they want the records of other physical injuries. It msy be the the records change nothing, just as it may not be relevant to look at previous physical injuries, but they won't know that until they see them.
