Hello, my lease ends the 31st of July and we are ready to go and then the landlord asked us if we turned in our 30 day notice of leaving agreement. I was confused and said no why? she said because you have to give a 30 day notice of leaving the complex, or you will have to pay another months rents. I do not want to pay 1200 bucks out of my pocket for not even living here!!!!!! Is their any way of getting out of this or breaking my lease with 4 more days to go. We did just have a drive by shooting in our complex and I was wondering if we could use this to our advantage by saying that I feel my health is being compromised by living here. What can I do to not end up having to pay an extra months rent after I leave. I live in Las Vegas, NV

I would think that since you did not renew the lease, that is notice enough. I may be wrong, but I thought that it was only your responsibility to stay for the duration of the lease. Did at anytime, your landlord approach you about renewing your lease? Some one with more knowledge than I will be along. Elklaw is brilliant in all aspects of the law, maybe he will answer this one.

You need to review your lease to see what it says about termination. Most states' landlord-tenant law provide that a lease goes onto month-to-month basis after the original term is up, not that the lease ends altogether.
