I have been getting harrased by a co-worker ever since he started in our company. I am from the UK and have a slight accent, I speak excellent english. This guy constantly makes fun of how I speak, he says he cant understand a word I say and said that he doesnt know why the company would hire me as a receptionist with my accent. Last week he caught me in the hall way and asked if I had a greencard, I told him it was none of his business. I asked if he had a problem with me being a foreigner and he said I should go back to where I came from. On Friday, he came into the office on his day off. He met with his supervisor in his office. After he chatted with him for a while, he approached my desk. Again he asked if I had a greencard, I asked him to repeat himself and he asked again. I told him again it was none of his business and to leave my desk. He was going on about me being a foreigner and I told him I would tell Brandon (my husband). He shouted who is Brandon and a co-worker told him, thats her husband. He then offended me by saying, that thing is married. The co-worker said shes married with a child and he replied - they allow that to reproduce. I was crying by this point and told him if he didnt leave I would call the owner of the company. He yelled in my face and left the office. I reported this to my manager. He doesnt want to get rid of this employee, he was over heard talking to the supervisor saying hes great at his job. I feel their response to what happened is wrong. Can someone please advise me on what I can do.
Do you have a human resource office in your work building? If you do, go there and do not go to your boss anymore since he obviously won't do anything about it. If there is no human resource office, I would go to your bosses boss and tell him of your problem, and your bosses response to this. This is clearly harrasment and should not be tolerated. I must say though, to also see if he says anything else. Your bosses responsibility is to make sure it doesn't happen again, so he may not fire him, but he may take other action that you are not privvy to know of. If it happens anymore, you have more ammunition against both the offender and your boss, so see what happens.

The law does not require that they "get rid of the employee". There are no circumstances whatsoever in which the law requires the employer to fire someone.

What they are required to do is make the offending behavior stop. They do not have to do it in the way you want to have it done; they only need to make it stop. Nor do they have to make the discipline public or tell you what action they have taken.

It is unclear whether or not your situation has crossed the line into illegal harassment. However, Turbowray is correct that the best way to handle this would be to talk to HR.

I have repeatly asked this person to stop, he wont. This person has harrased another employee, he also went and reported his incident. The manager refuses to deal with this person. 2 months ago, they fired a supervisor for talking rudely to the owners personal assistant. I feel like if the company likes you enough, they will cover up your actions. I would like my employer to at least recognise the harrasement exists. I dont feel anyone should go into their workplace and get treated like this.

So, go to HR and report it.
