I am a city employee in Parks & Recreation. I have worked in the city for 3 years this september and am still considered temporary. What interested me was that in the employee handbook, it states that "temporary employees are scheduled to work no more than 1000 hours in a calendar year...". For the past 3 years i have not worked less than about 1400 hours. I am paid overtime past 40 hours in a workweek. Also, one of my job descriptions is that I need to go to the bank and get change, (the city owns a golf course) and i use my own car and gas to do this at least twice a week. i know its not far (maybe 3 miles each way), but 3 years adds up.
Additionally, about two months ago we became short-staffed and i began working 13-hours a day without a lunch break. I was all by myself. This is when i found out that i did not receive the overtime until over 40. For the past month i have been scheduled over 40 hours in a week.
Finally, the city just began hiring a few guys to work with me. I have been the one to train them, and when they have a problem they call me frequently on my cell phone. Usually every day. I am considered a recreation aide just like the guys they hired, but i am doing a recreation leaders shop, should i receive some extra pay for this.
Am i entitled to a change in employee status and repayment of compensation?
