We live in Utah and I have heard several differents definitions of split custody. One is that if there is more than one child the children are split between parents. What if it is only one child but we want her half the time? Is this called Joint Physical or still split custody? Is this a sticky thing to try to do? What do we have to prove if anything to get her half the time? Thank you for your help!!

Unless a child is older, usually there is goign to be a primary custodial parent and non-custodial parent who pays support to the custodial parent. You are trying to get the child half of the time so there is no child support paid, etc.... I think that is going to be rare and you need to prove that it really is 50-50 to have joint custody and joint physical custody, with each parent not paying support to the other for the child.

Its not that we are trying to get out of paying child support, we just would like to have her 50% of the time. I am seeing that it is very rare unless the mother agrees to it. We havent approached her on it yet, we wanted to find out all the information on it first. Thank you!!
