I work in the medical profession in the administration part. I am required by my boss to clock in and out for work. However, when I go over my 80 hours I am not paid overtime nor am I compensated with comp time. I am considered a supervisor. All other supervisors are not required to clock in and out and when they work extra or more than 80 hours they are given comp. time. I have asked why this is and have been told because I am a exempt employee. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are a salaried employee, they can work you overtime without paying you overtime, unless in a contract, it says they can't. Maybe the other bosses are hourly supervisors? Pattymd, and CBG, are very good at these answers!! Good luck to you!!

BTW, even if you are properly classified as exempt, the law does not prohibit the employer from requiring you to clock in/out or track your hours, even if they do not require it of other exempt employees. And, if you are NOT exempt, they MUST pay overtime, not provide comp time. The only employers that can offer comp time in lieu of overtime are government entities (at the employee's option).
