My mother slept with my father's best friend for years while I was growing up. About 9 years ago, my father confronted my mother, who confessed, and they worked things out. A week ago, my mother left my father because of his fussing and fighting with her and their children, not to metion his drinking. Now he has giving her an option, she can either come back home or he will sue her and her former lover for aleination of affection. I thought that the law states that if he forgave her and they continued their marriage, that he could no longer sue on those grounds. Isn't there a time frame there? Like I said before, it's been almost 14 years since she stopped the affair and 9 years since she confessed. Does my mother have any right to worry about being sued after all these years?

First, he can’t sue your mother. The person he could sue would be her lover. But, he would have had to file suit within 3 years, so he’s missed the window of opportunity.

Be aware that I am not an attorney, and if Mom is really worried about this, then she should speak with one.
