I live in Texas. I am 16 years old and am dating a 23 year old. my parents are aware and have no problem with the relationship. We are not engaging in sexual activity, we never have, and we don't plan to until we marry when I reach the age of 18. Are we breaking any laws by having a relationship, even though we are sexually inactive, and plan to marry in two years?

Because you are sexually inactive, there is no reason to believe a law is being violated. By the way, I believe the age of concent in Texas is 17-years-old.

It's good that your parents approve of the relationship. To most people, 23 and 16 is a big age difference. Stay honest with your parents. At any time, since you are considered a child until the age of 18, your parents may file for a restraining order against your boyfriend. Also, the age of consent for sexual activity in Texas is 17. However, Indecency with a Child (Chapter 21, Penal Code) and Sexual Assault (Chapter 22, Penal Code) are punishable as felonies of the second or third degrees. Stay sexually inactive!
