The reason that I'm writing this is because i'm not sure what I should do. I worked for a company that works for the homeless and the near homeless. I had worked there for two and 1/2 months, I walked out when I found out how much my boss lied about situations at work. We receive grants from United Way and are also funded by HUD and state and federal grants.

We would receive donations of furniture and tables chairs etc. from people. A bedroom set, dressers, chair, ottoman, and china hutch was given from a very well to do house. Needless to say that was from a very nice house and it went to employees and not clients. Yes the supervisor knew about this but did not care, she just wanted to know when it would be out of our office. The company vehicles were used for personal use as well as for company use. But the logs had been changed so they would look good. The supervisor had them doctored then said she did not know anything about them. The supervisor on company time was with two of the employees and had the company pick-up and decided that when they went to pick up some bikes for clients, they would stop off at the bar and have a beer, then the three women drove back to work and unloaded the bikes and went home from work of course it was 5 p.m by then. We have also been told to bill HUD for 2 hours even if we see the client for 30 minutes or whatever.

I was labled an outcast after only 2 weeks when of being at this job because I declined an offer to go to the horse races and gamble and drink on a company wellnes outing. Didn't seem like my idea of "wellness" time.

I bought a homeless man who just got out of the emergency room a subway sandwich because he just found out he was diabetic, and had nothing to eat since that morning. My co-worker went and complained about it. Then my supervisor complained that I took the company car 50 miles to take him to a shelter so I knew he would be taken care of and receive proper education about his new illness. But yet another co worker could use the vehicle for moving her furniture from one town to another on company gas and miles.

I had one of my clients made fun of because he had part of his butt crack showing while he sat in my office and they could see it from walking by, they called him *** crack man and then had the supervisor come see and this was when I was working with him. I had butt cracks drawn on my dry erase board because they thought it was cute. I was also given all of the sex offenders that have been released from prison (2) and the clients that no one wanted to work with because they really did live on the streets and would be hard to help.

I was more or less outs after about 2 weeks because I did not want to go with the girls to the horse races and drink because it was not in my best interest to do so. ( We had a two hour paid wellness benefit that the company gives us and this is what they wanted to do). I had no problem with that but I just did not want to go I had other things I needed to do. I also came to work on time and left when I was suppose to not like two hours late or leave early like the supervisor or other employees would do. Did I mention that this was a company that received funding from HUD, United WAy and state and federal grants? I have told HR and the my supervisors supervisor but they either do not care or believe me.

What Should I Do????

This is horrendous. You can (and I would) report this activities to all the agencies that fund this one. You can bet they would want to know that gambling on company time is a "wellness" outing (it would be for me, but I digress :o ) and that donations are being given to employees.

I hope you're out of there already and can find another job where you can help people; it sounds like you're a very compassionate person.

The Wellness two hours that we are paid for is really time off but with pay, but our group wanted to go to the races. But going to the bar and having a beer with the company truck was on company time.

The organization that I worked for did a lot of good in our community, but it could do more, especially with as many homeless families that we have out there. SAD.

I loved the job I was doing but yes I walked out when my supervisor lied to my face right in front of her supervisor. My supervisor just didn't think I fit in with the group and that I was not catching on to the paperwork fast enough.......hmmm maybe some training would help.

The only problem is if I go to the other organizations and let them know what is going on then I maybe in trouble because we are not to discuss what happens in our work place. We had to sign a paper to this effect. But then they would have to sue me and then it would really be public. Wouldn't HUD love to know that they are getting billed more hours for a program than they should and would anyone even believe me? I just want to do what is right.

If you are concerned about the document you signed, then you really need to speak with an attorney.
