Okay, just curious here...
I went to my doctor in June of 2005 for pain in my stomach and recent weight gain. She did a normal examination and told me she didn't find anything. She told me to up my activity for the weight gain and told me I might have a small infection, so she gave me some antibiotics. Then sent me on my way.

Four months later in October I collapsed at work to the point where I couldn't sip water without throwing it back up, stand or anything. My security staff called my mom who lives nearby and had her take me to the hospital. They gave me a c-scan and found a LARGE cyst on my ovary. (10 inches long and 12 inches high) it had been pushing my intestine, colon and stomach so far out of place I had no room left in my abdomen. I had to have emergency surgery 2 days later and I was out for 8 weeks.

Should the doctor have ordered an ultrasound or even a blood test (Ca-125)? I have to have the Ca-125 every three months for the next 6 years or until they remove my other ovary. Is the doctor liable in any way? Had they found it sooner, they wouldn't have had to cut a 12 inch line across my stomach, they would have made and inch long incision and gone through my belly button.

I just think she should have been able to find a 10 x 12 inch cyst. Do I have anything here, or just unlucky enough to have my chances of having a child cut in half, and never being able to wear a bikini again?

You would need to have your medical records reviewed by a malpractice professional to determine if your doctor breached the standard of care for someone of your age, potential risk factors, etc. We can't determine that here. Malpractice is very case-specific at times. I'm sorry we can't be more helpful -- you've certainly been through a horrible experience, and it's understandable that would ask these questions.

Thank you for your time. Maybe I'll at least talk to someone. It just feels unfair, and I want to strike out at someone. So I haven't persued any legal advice since I'm not sure if what happened to me was really anybody's fault. I guess it doesn't hurt to look into it further...is there a time limit for me to file a complaint?

Yes, there generally are time limits for filing malpractice actions. I believe that in Arizona it's two years after the incident that gives rise to the malpractice claim.
