Hi,

I just relocated here from out of US last September cause my husband is here. From Sept till Feb, I was doing mostly consultant work. Recently i started looking for a full time job and somewhere end of May I landed one with a company that I think have more than 50 employees. I signed the contract on early June and am starting work on early July.

Last weekend, I found out that i am 8 weeks pregnant and now am really worried about my job. I will be due somewhere end of Jan or early feb. Which puts it that i will only be at my job for abt 8 months. I am not sure how it is here in CA. I am hoping that someone can help explain to me regarding

a) Whether my job will be protected even though i will only be in teh company for abt 8 months
b) Will i be given any leave? How long is the leave and is it paid or unpaid?

From what i gathered reading the forum, i can get up to 6 weeks of leave after giving birth and can claim some disability.

Appreciate any explanation, cause i am really new to CA and am feeling confused and worried about the status of my job due to this pregnancy and what happens after. Cause i really dont want to lose the job.

You are correct - you will get at least 6 weeks after your baby is born job-protected and paid through state disability insurance. You can also take an additional 6 weeks after that through Paid Family Leave, but that will not be job-protected.
