Hi, everyone.
Please keep an open mind about this!
I'm trying to talk to folks who have fibbed to their spouses and
eventually came clean (or maybe haven't yet). Are you telling your
husband how much you're REALLY spending on holiday gifts? Did you tell
your wife you were working late when you were really out with the
boys?
I'm a reporter for Newhouse News Service in Washington, D.C. --
www.newhouse.com -- which distributes stories nationally to the
Newhouse newspaper chain, including the Plain Dealer of Cleveland, the
Times-Picayune of New Orleans, the Star-Ledger of Newark and the
Oregonian in Portland.
I'm looking for people to interview about how they dealt with the
situation. You can reach me directly at
michele.melendez(at)newhouse.com. (Please do not respond to the e-mail
message at the top of this note, because I don't check that account
often.)
Thanks for thinking about it.

I look at lying as deliberately decieving someone to maintain or obtain an
advantage. If I think my wife cooks lousey, looks overweight or does
something dumb I am not as "honest" about it as I would be with someone
else. I guess the intention of the lie is more important Some people use
"honesty" as destructively as lies, saying hurtful things the person can not
or is not ready to confront.
As far as stupid, transient issues like money I always tell the truth.

I tell thr truth when it comes to how much money I spent on holiday gifts,
but I might lie and say something about what I purchased or was leaning
toward to throw him off and expect something he is not getting. We are very
honest with each other about nearly everything. I don't think he ever lied
to me in the nearly 10 years we've been together .

What makes you think he never lied to you in the 10 years you have
been together? I couldn't safely make a statement like that about
anyone! I think that we all lie to a degree and the word itself is so
subjective.
