I work for a company for 9 years and they sold the business to another company and i agreed to stay on as a employee with the new company. They made me sales manager for the company and i was paid a salary plus commission about a year ago they decided they could not afford to pay me a salary anymore so they paid me strictly commission. what i wold like to know is can they do that? I was the only manager out of all department that they took salary away but i kept my title as being sales mgr.I worked on commission for the last year making more money than i made on salary, but i didnt have enough salesmen so they hired the part owners boyfriend and he worked in sales for about a week and decided that he could not make any money so my employer called a meeting this all managers and told us that he was going to be a manager with only 2 years of experience and being paid a salary not commission. I did not think this was fair to me, again i am the only manager there not being paid a salary.so i spoke with my employer about this and stated that my salary was taken from because of the company not making money, but you hire some else and pay him a salary. The answer was he will help in all department that is why he was hired. Is this right? Do i have legal rights to pursue? please help?

It is perfectly legal for the employer to change your method of pay and to pay a friend in a different manner than you. This is especially true if he will be performing other work for various departments and not doingthe same work you are, no matter what his title is.
