My granddaughter moved out of state 5 years ago (to CA). She lives with her mother. The parents never married. We only get to see her once a year when they return to our state (2-3 days). We keep asking for visitation, summer vacations, etc. But it never leads anywhere. Do we have any rights at all?

The only way you have any right to visitation is if the FATHER (assuming he has been recognized as the legal father) sues for visitation. Until there is a court order stipulating that the father has any vistation rights, no, she does not have to allow vistation at all.
