It depends. Some stuff the bride's family, some stuff the grooms - although
if the bride and groom are working and have money of their own, some people
think they should pay for their own wedding.

It also isn't necessary to have a $15,000 wedding. A lot of people will get
married by a Justice of the Peace in the courthouse, or by a minister in a
wedding chapel, for very little money. To me, it doesn't make sense to
start out married life by going deep into debt for a one-day event. YMMV.

Husband pays for diamond ring, wife's family pays for wedding (though sometimes
these days, groom and bride will pay and or husband's family will the
contribute), (married couple pays for honeymoon, though sometimes husband's
family will pay), husband's family pays for rehearsal dinner night before

The U.S. is a melting pot, and there are many different traditions that vary
by family, by region, by ethnicity or heritage.

There is no one tradition when it comes to getting married.

In my region, ethnicity, heritage and family, standard is that the groom's
family pays for the rehearsal dinner and the honeymoon, and the bride's
family pays for the ceremony and reception.

But it's not a hard rule.

By tradition, the wife's parents pay for the wedding. This is
completely voluntary, though.

By tradition you don't have a wedding you can't afford. It's pretty
nouveau to go into hock for it.

Also, by tradition, the bride lived at home with her parents and had no
other source of income. It is also traditionally the bride who starts
thinking the wedding has to be a Broadway Musical Event with costumes and
choreagraphy and auditions for perfect bridesmaids. Therefore it's the
bride (or her family) that pays for it.

A newer tradition has the bride paying for everything and her parents
helping where they feel comfortable. The groom tends to pay for the
rehearsal dinner with his parents helping where they feel comfortable.
Having your parents help with the wedding is a GIFT, not a debt they must
fulfill.

The groom pays for the rings. Women throughout time have made do with a
smaller, less-expensive ring and been quite happy with it. It's a symbol
of love, not gold-digging.

The honeymoon is typically paid for by the couple themselves. It is often
financed by gifts, but it isn't traditional to COUNT on gifts to finance
it. We drove up the Maine Coast staying at Bed & Breakfast Inns for our
honeymoon, for example, because it was what we could afford. (Now we go
on cruises. Life changes.)

If I recall correctly, our wedding, reception, rings and honeymoon all
came out to around $5,000. It wasn't as nice as a $50,000 wedding I went
to, but that wedding was as nice as Charles and Diana's was, either.

parts of this area, that's not even the move-in cost of some apartments.
