when i was on holidays, in another state, i sent someone a hate email. now the cops where i live are investigating me. do they have jurisdiction over it, or do the cops from where the email was sent have to investigate me?

I already answered that.
You commited the act in the Alaska, therefore Alaska would be a better place to try the case. Generally, these things are handled where the person received the communication, but if they can prove where it came from, then they can prosecute it in either place. In fact, since it crossed state lines, both states can prosecute you for it.
Wait, even if he was in CA when he sent the email? I think that is what he was saying. I understand what YOU are saying, if he was in fact in Alaska when he sent the email. But it looks like he was in CA and sent the email to somebody in CA. Does that make a difference, or no? (Not arguing, just curious.)

yes the police know where it was sent from. i just want to know what the legal limits are for them. the email was sent and received in california but i live in alaska. alaska police are investigating me. does alaska police have jurisdiction?

no, nothing passed through alaska. the recipient contacted alaska police because he knows i live here. that is why they are investigating me. i just want to know if they have any jurisdiction over a crime or if they are allowed to investigate a crime that happened elsewhere.
