I would very much like to buy civilian, non-disgusting action figures
for my 2.4 year old son. I do not want to buy space alien action
figures, toy soldiers, hulk stuff, etc. I am looking for regular
people type figures, such as police officers, regular people male and
female, construction workers, etc. about 2 inch length would be
ideal. They do not have to be associated with any cartoons except
perhaps Winnie the Pooh. I have not been able to find them at toys'rus
or walmart. Any suggestions?

Well, you might not like the suggestion, but in the
'girl's aisle', there are lots of little playsets
that have 'normal' people in them. They have little
sets that will have a candy store with a worker and
a couple of customers, or a post office with a mail
man and a couple of customers, etc. But, they might
be too small for your son (i.e., a choking hazard.)
They still sell the Little People sets, I believe.
Those are Fisher Price and would be in the infant/
toddler sections. If they don't, you can probably
find some at garage sales and/or on EBay, but they
might be a little expensive since some people collect
the older Little People items.

That sounds about right. I am looking for normal people type
figures. We are now starting to play with roles (like this: "here your
grandma is going into the car and we'll drive her to the train
station, now we are going into the train"), and little figures would
be useful. I am not concerned with choking at this point.

I will check out girl's isles, I hope to find something that is not
depressingly pink there.

My daughter really liked (and still does, actually) the "Playmobil"
figures and stuff. They have lots of things, and it isn't oriented
toward either gender.

My son doesn't care about it all (well, he likes the Harry Potter
Playmobil stuff, but only because it is Harry Potter). But then he
really isn't interested in dolls, model people, action figures, or any
of that.

thanks, it seems like these playmobil sets are nice, but come with
much more than playing figures. We already have the whole house full
of that stuff. I wish I could just buy the figures separately, they
are nice.

My son likes the Geoffrey's world figures.

We have the farm animals set and one which just had small people which we
find useful for playing the kinds of games you mentioned. We also have the
dolls house my husband and I built and furnished all by hand for our
daughter for Christmas one year. (That was one very late/early Christmas Eve
I'd rather forget... lol)

Anyway, I did manage to find some small dolls and I think you could find
that a specialty doll's house shop would have dolls or figures in a wide
range of ages that would be suitable. Most toy shops would have blister
packs of them, I expect. My son loves playing with his sister's dolls house
but has a tendancy to turn it into a parking garage for his vehicle fleet
and puts all the dolls in the bathroom so they can use the toilet... which
he discusses at some length and far too much detail.

Yes, generally they do. Though some of the sets are mostly figures
and very little other stuff.

Both of these have a large number of figures. There were others as well.

I'm not sure what section you would consistently find these in, but there are also inexpensive plastic playsets--farm animals with some farmers, zoo animals, etc. A good dollar store might be worth investigating. Kids will role play pretty well with whatever the hell they can get their hands on. They don't really care much that "grandma" looks surprisingly like a cow. And--oh yes--your son must have plastic dinosaurs, even if you find them disgusting.

Unfortunately, my kids never liked the plastic dinosaurs as much as I do.
No accounting for taste!
