I JUST WANTED THE BEST FOR MY ANDREY Feb 1 2005

By Sasha Mansworth

CALLOUS gran Nina Tkacheva is begging to meet the little boy she tried to sell
for his body parts.

Andrey, now eight, has made a new life with adoptive parents Shaun and
Josephine Moncur in Scotland.

But despite the evidence of her twisted crime, Tkacheva, who took a fee of
£65,000 for the little boy in 2000, insists she only wanted the best for him.

Her appeal has horrified Shaun and Josephine, who adopted Andrey after seeing
his horrifying story on television.

Trapped Tkacheva was trapped by undercover police as she tried to complete the
sale of Andrey in Ryzan, central Russia, in 2000.

She had done a deal with a 'foreign businessman' to sell him, knowing he would
be murdered so his organs could be sold on the black market.

Now, in a magazine interview, the evil gran, who served four years of a
five-year jail sentence, denies she was selling Andrey.

She claims she still misses him and only wanted to find him well-off parents.

But adoptive dad Shaun, from Beith, Ayrshire, says she will never be allowed to
see Andrey.

He added:'It is unbelievable, how she can try to blank out what she did.

'To come to terms with the trauma of what he has faced has taken a lot and
Andrey still retains bad memories of what happened.'

Josephine said: 'We don't feel it is in his interest to have contact. To look
at Andrey a year ago and see him now, the change is quite something. When he
arrived, he didn't even like me to go into the next room without him as,
understandably, he was so terrified about being abandoned.

'But he is now a happy, confident boy who is very much part of the family.'

After his gran's arrest, Andrey was sent back to the orphanage where he had
been abandoned by his mum earlier.

He had little hope of finding a new home, when the Moncurs, who have five other
kids, saw him on TV and were touched by his plight.

Tkacheva claimed: 'I never tried to sell my grandson. I just wanted to find
well-to-do parents for Andrey because, at that time, I had no opportunity to
support him.

'I miss my grandson and I look at his picture every evening wondering where he
is.

'I hope his new parents will teach him Russian. I am afraid he will forget his
native tongue and I won't be able to talk to him.

'I love Andrey and want to see him again, see how he is growing up.

'I don't want him to forget me but I'm afraid he will remember only the bad
things that people tell him and not how much I loved him and wanted the best
for him.

'I hope Andrey will forgive me.' Tkacheva's £65,000 fee for Andrey would have
meant she could buy her own flat, a car and a life away from the market stall
she ran.

The price was her grandson's life. Andrey would be sold, killed by lethal
injection and have the organs stripped from him for sale.

But she told him he was going to live with a rich American family who would
take him on a trip to Disneyland Paris.

Stuffed On the day he was sold,Tkacheva took him to the market square in Ryzan.

He sat with his Uncle Sergei and Aunt Larisa in a nearby cafe as his gran
completed her macabre transaction.

The bag stuffed with the cash she'd get in return for his life was handed to
her.

But just as she was about to give up her grandson she was arrested by the
'buyer' - really an undercover cop.

No doubt the woman did the wrong thing selling the kid, but the organ
removal part is unsubstantiated and unlikely. Even the line "killed
by lethal injection and his organs stripped from him" makes me doubt
that part of the story. I've never yet seen a single one of these
"killed for organ donation" stories substantiated. The closest thing
we get is the live organ sale in developing countries, but as
exploitative as that is - it involves adults making decisions to sell
their own organs.
