Love Child (ITV1, Sunday) was one of the saddest things you ever saw. It was
about women having their illegitimate babies forcibly taken away by the
authorities. If they didn't hand over their babies for adoption they were
sometimes threatened with being sent to a mental institution. And the amazing
thing is that this programme wasn't about some barbaric time in the dark ages,
this was Britain in the 1950s and 1960s. And here were some of those woman to
talk about the anger and pain they still feel.

Still, it's all good ammunition for the next time an old person complains about
modern Britain, and that everything was so much better in the past.

A good friend will come and bail you out of jail . . . but, a true friend will
be sitting next to you saying, "Damn . . . that was fun!"

Didn't quite hit the spot for me. It didn't uncover the antics of the
likes Doris Ridd and Children's Officers who took the law in to their
own hands after the 1948 Children Act. The gang of vicars from the NSPCC
and amateur social worker from Dr Barnardos and other still much revered
charities that are so anxious to sweep their child snatching past under
the carpet.

The recollections of the mothers involved were very poignant , however
having read a few files and having heard a few fist hand recollections
my self, I wonder how much was edited out to make it all a bit more
palatable for the TV company chiefs worrying about children's charities
with big advertising budgets
