RE:Interesting. BTW, my aparents lied to the adoption agency about
being "good church going folk" and joined and attended a local
Methodist church until the finalization of my adoption just in case
anyone actually checked. Sometimes people just tell you what you want
to hear.

Anyone who uses lies to gain an advantage is committing a legal fraud.
You were therefore obtained by fraud.

I had a friend in college whose former SIL led quite an interesting life.
She was a therapist and Lenny Bruce was one of her best friends. Anyway,
she had 2 kids that she screwed around. She kept a journal of everything
she did to them so when they got older instead of going through a lot of
intrusive therapy, they could just turn the notebooks over to the shrinks.

Absolutely You're looking for free labor to pull weeds. I must say though
that my mother caught on quite early that I was not interested in cooking.
The whole time I lived with my parents until I got married I tried to cook
once . That was a bacon and cheese quiche, and my mother had a fit that I
would even want to eat something like that, much less cook it. Being an
amom, her idea of exotic food was frozen Spanish rice and city chicken..

between the trips to Paris and Rome ;)

And Di, if you're reading this, you're a bitter old ***** and I plonked you

It appears to be mystery meat on a stick. It was invented during the
Depression when I guess real chicken was too expensive My mother also
favored chipped beef and gravy on pancakes and waffles . Actually, I like it
to, but this was a fairly regular dinner And, of course, sweet breds.

I also worked in the acute care psychiatric ward in our regional hospital back in the early 80's. Oh the stories I could tell. Glad I got the hell out of there after two years, but it was an invaluable life experience.I was actually only the department's secretary and had very little contactwith the patients, though I do recall being up at the "mental ward" whenthey bought in some guy that though he was Dracula and had been runningaround the U of F campus trying to bite people on the neck.

I have a couple dozen or so of those stories, but I don't have the time to
get into them right now.

My official title was "Psychiatric Assistant" - we perfomed the admission
procedures, participated in some family counseling, reported any change in the
patient's mood or affect to the attending psychiatrist, etc. I even witnessed
ECT therapy on perhaps 5 or 6 patients during my time there. But the real
reason I was hired was to respond to any dangerous situations that might erupt
on the unit at any time - a glorified bouncer.

We had the only locked unit in the county so we got most of the involuntary
commitments and all the transfers from the prison - which means my bouncer
"services" were required at least once a week. With a little help from the ER
technicians, I personally had to run down and retrieve three inmates who had
escaped at shift change or from OT.

Great experience... dead end job. I returned to college to finish my degree
after two years.
I gotta say that all the psychiatrist there most DEFINITELY had their own problems.I thought that was pretty hilarious at the time ;) Of the four full-time staff psychiatrists, only one was effective at his job. One particular psychiatrist was so fearful of mental health patients he insisted on an escort whenever he ventured outside the nurses station.Good gracious, talk about a wrong job choice.

Some 5' 2" 80 lb anorexic threatened him one time. I swear he peed his
pants.

Actually, one of the psychiatrists was. The good one, as a matter of fact.

I couldn't tell you how many adoptees we had on the unit. We did have our
share of Amish, though.

Almost the same thing.

BTW, Dad, please send any eligible Amish men my way.

Someday I'll have to tell you the story of how I met "The God Jupiter"
while in medical school.

Back a "few" years I worked as the security officer for the commitment court
at the State Hospital for mental patients. It was my job to bring the high
security (read homicidal) patients from the secure ward to the court and
back. Generally it went reasonably well as they were pretty well medicated
for the session. One 6'6", 360lb gentleman waited until I turned him back
over to the folks in the ward before he walked up to the first staff person
and broke his jaw in three places. Life experience, oh yeah. Hmmmm, I never
did find out if he was an adoptee or not..

We had a separate facility which housed people that that had committed
crimes, but were deemed mentally ill. I used to transcribe their
evaluations. VERY interesting. One guy was hallucinating that he was being
attacked by Ninjas.

I listened to one of the local evangelical radio hosts today that I track.
He was in better form than usual. (On one show this summer he spent 2 hours
trying to get a pet rock to talk by pouring water over it). He "connected
the dots" to Dimebag's murder--the direct line from John Lennon's
"Imagine" to the teaching of evolution in the schools. Since Nathan Gale
learned in school that his origins are pond scum, then it's OK to kill
people. Why didn't I think of that? It makes life so much more simple.

A psychiatrist was murdered by one of his patients (the son of a prominent
judge) in our area. Sometimes people who deal with the mentally ill have
reason to worry.
