I had been working at my job for a month. I lost my job today. One of the managers who doesn't like me, I guess, told my General Manager that I stole food from the store. I didn't steal anything!!! I got a free meal for working on my day off and I guess I got too much food. They saw me order the food and neither of the two managers who saw me do it said anything to me and they seemed not to care. So, I didn't even know I did anything wrong. Then today, my General Manager calls me into the office and tells me that I ordered too much food for my free meal and that the manager on duty had told me I couldn't do that and said that I did it anyways! That manager never said anything to me. In fact she acted like she didn't even care and then went into the office and called my General Manager and told on me! I had no idea that I had done anything wrong! No one told me what I was doing was wrong but they lied to the general manager and told her that they had warned me! (There is a tape and you can clearly see where they didn't seem to have any problem with what I was doing) I am so upset! I was crying so bad when she told me she "had to let me go" because it's their word over mine. Why would I deliberatly do something in front of the managers if I knew what I was doing was wrong! So, I'm taking it to the Better Business Burough. I should have received a warning but they just fired me for no reason! The manager on duty should have done her job and informed me that I couldn't get that much food for free. It seems to me and everyone else I talked to that they were just looking for a reason to fire me because I'm pregnant. I was told by the General Manager that she had to "let me go" and then she sent me home. She said that if I wanted to confront the two managers that I could do it at 5:00 pm that day BUT she had already fired me. Then I go to give her my uniform and she says "I haven't fired you yet". Well, yes she did, earlier that morning. I'm about to have a baby in 3 months and I don't want to have to take any kind of abuse. Do I have a case? I'm going to try to get Unemployment. I've never felt so hurt and decieved in my entire life. I really liked working there. Now I don't know what to do. No one else is going to hire me because I'm so far along in my pregnancy. I'm really hoping that I qualify for Unemployment or that I can file a good case against them for wrongful termination. I'm a white female at 20 years of age and the two managers who got me fired are black females. One being 24 and the other being in her mid 30's.
