The baby was one day old when he was dropped off by a family friend at Santa
Rosa Hospital last Friday with cocaine in his system.
Officials are currently searching for the baby’s mother to determine whether
or not her rights should be terminated and the child placed for adoption.
"You got to give her an opportunity," said Judge Richard Garcia. "Maybe she
changed her mind, maybe she was just afraid, didn't know her friend was
bringing him. You got to give her a chance to come forward."
In the meantime, the newborn is considered another Baby Moses case -- where the
birth parents are protected under the law.
"We asked for temporary custody of this baby, because there is no mother at
this point," said Mary Walker, of Child Protective Services. "The baby was
turned over to us and they actually indicated they were turning the baby over
under the Baby Moses Law."
The baby was released from the hospital and is in foster care. A custody
hearing will be held in about a week.

A good friend will come and bail you out of jail . . . but, a true friend will
be sitting next to you saying, "Damn . . . that was fun!"
