Just an opinion on why I dont like living in Melbourne. I moved here 1
year ago from Brisbane.
1. Melbourne is very snobby and stuck up compared to other Australian
cities/towns.
2. Melbourne girls are the shallowest, pickiest girls i have ever seen
in my life. being single in this town is not fun!
3. People are way too hung up on fashion and appearances.
4. The traffic is some of the worst I have ever seen anywhere and I have
lived in 3 countries and lots of cities!
5. The speed cameras are outrageous, the labour govt loves to
tax/revenue raise and spend!
6. Housing/rentals cost a fortune.
7. The weather is awful. too cold and rainy for me. maybe you Poms
will like it.
thats all i can think of. one good thing is the food and coffee ( I live
in Carlton, an inner city suburb known for both) and it is very
multicultural. I dont want to change anyones mind, just thought Id throw
in my 2 cents worth. Good luck!

[...snip...]
Several items on your list, albeit with a different spin are exactly what
attracts us: Melbourne is the unchallenged culture-capital of Australia.
Even Sydneysiders I've spoken to will grudgingly admit that.
The scene, the food, the drink reminds us a lot of a mix of London and San
Francisco.
Housing? Sydney is worse - and Brisbane is on track to become the worst,
according to a recent article in The Age.
Picky girls? Can't comment on that. Have you checked in with the Queer Eyes
guys for a make-over? ;)

Not quite SJ, I live in Portsmouth and the people here are definately
not snobby and stuck up.
There's probably a lot of truth in the rest though.

Yeah, actually, it's typical pommie weather, grey and dreary. But not as
cold.

I've nver been to the UK in my life and I don't want to either. But I do

I hope you continue to think that every single living moment you are stuck
in a traffic jam.
And may there be many for you to enjoy.
A major factor for us to escape the US is its mindless focus on car
transport, with cities built only to suit cars, with nary public transport
in sight.

I think it'd be better if Axel chose to move to LA or Denver or Dallas.
He'd have so much of a better chance to avoid the peasants and share the
hours in traffic with others of his elite class.

I'd rather be stuck in traffic in my own car, listening to MY CD's, having a

shopping on the way home if I want to, taking a different way home to stop

And when it rains, how about walking to the bus stop in pouring rain?
No thanks! You wont catch me on public transport anytime soon!

Axel I am not asking you to hold back. At least your posts are not
boring. I disagree with most of them but keep going. Do you ever use
public transport?
Political Correctness is just a catch phrase used by people who are
scared of the way society is moving forward. If PC has ever existed it
has been so minor and infrequently applied that the column inches and
media coverage have been an overbown load of wind.

Depends on what you mean by public transport. For instance, if I fly
anywhere using an airline, thats public transport and I do that once a
fortnight.
But if we say that public transport is buses and trains, I think the last
time was 1990 when my mother was here and we decided to go in to the
Centrepoint and for some reason we decided to catch the train.
