Hi, I live in PA and work in the healthcare field. I am currently pregnant and out of work for a medical condition related to the pregnancy. They told me I would receive job protection under FMLA for 12 weeks, which may not be enough time for me depending if my doctor lets me go back. If I go back it only leaves me 4 weeks maternity leave.
After the 12 weeks they told me I would have to apply for personal leave and this could be denied then I would not have a job if I did not come back. Do I have any other rights/options/coverage under state laws to protect my job?
Also the first 4 weeks is unpaid (I have a 30 day waiting period) under my STD. I have STD up to 22 weeks. If I were to lose my job will I still have the income from the STD? Or does that stop as well with termination of my job? The STD is through a seperate company that gives me this benefit.

Thanks, Missie

FMLA provides 12 weeks of unpaid leave with job protection. After you have exhausted your 12 weeks, the employer has no legal obligation to continue to hold your job. It's unfortunate that you may need to use so much of your FMLA leave before the baby comes, but there is no additional leave available to you under PA state law.

The STD most likely will continue as long as you are disabled. You would need to read the plan documents to confirm this.
