I am working for a nursing home doing transportation/ ward clerk. My original job is transportation i am just with no choice filling in the ward clerk's position because our ward clerk quit, because they was being mean to her.I am scheduled to work from 8am till 5pm but most of the time I don't get to get off work at 5pm because I have appointments that take longer plus out of town. They told me if I couldn't get my hours right they could find someone to fill my spot! Threating me was not right, my question is can they fire me for doing my job even though i get over time? Because that is what they are threatning me with! :mad:Another thing do to all the stress they are causing me I have been put on bed rest and can't return to work until doctor releases me.What can be done about these issues?

Yes, they can threaten you with firing. You can even be fired. Nothing in the law says if you take on extra duties your job is sacrosanct and your employment is guaranteed regardless.

We don't have enough information to answer your other question. We need to know the following:

1.) How long have you worked for this employer?
2.) How many employees does the employer have within 75 miles of your location?
3.) In the 12 months immediately preceding your being put on bedrest, had you worked a minimum of 1,250 hours?
4.) How much time, total, have you missed for medical reasons in the last 12 months?
