I was working for advance company and completed the contest on april 15 and I left may 5, 2006 and they are now telling me that I need to be employed at the time the bonus was to be given out. Well, I do not feel that i should be denied my bonus. If they like to take their sweet time, I feel I wanted more than enough time almost a month later. Any help would be great.

In your state, bonuses are not, generally speaking, deemed vested wages. Therefore, if the bonus policy is that the worker be employed on the date it is paid, that is perfectly legal.
