Hi all, I'm new to this forum, came across it while looking for ways to enforce child support. So, since I'm new, here's a brief synopsis of my situation:

Father and I have been divorced for eight years.

Two daughters - ages 12 and 14 (They are the BEST! :))

Father has historically only been regular with child support when he has had a live in girlfriend. He ditched his last GF about two years ago, and I have received a dime since then.

He got laid off from his job, but rather than look for another, he and his dad decided to start a new business, based on an invention (a contraption that would allow you to practice bowling technique indoors) that had not been tested. They raised money for patents, trademarks, a web site - optimized of course, an instructional video, a prototype, and manufacturing of these indoor bowling balls from China. Basically, they gambled away the children's child support. And yes, I will admit to being more than a bit miffed.

His monthly support for TWO children is only $400.00. I finally got tired of the broken promises and turned him over to DCSS last October. He got a job, and when I found out and gave them the info, he quit one week before the garnishment was to take effect. He called to tell me he had found a job as an "independent" contractor.

He actually took me to court to try to get a reduction of his child support. The DCSS attorney told him he was lucky I had not asked for an INCREASE and the judge denied the motion.

They have suspended his licenses (driving, captain's, and fishing), though I don't think he knows that yet.

Still he doesn't pay. What happens now? Should I call the DCSS weekly to find out what's happening or will that just aggravate them. Should I take a day off and follow him to find out where he is working? Argh. Any advise for me? I can't really afford an attorney, though I might be able to work with on based on a percentage. Are they really that sucessful though?

Thanks for any input and/or advice.

Well, as unfunny as it really is, you have to know I kind of giggled at the "invention". WTH???

Okay, now as far as DCSS, you need to stay on them. If you don't, they won't work quite as hard because nobody is putting any heat on them. If you can really follow him and find out where he is working to give DCSS the information, then go ahead. Is there no other way to find this information out?

Yeah, when he told me about it, it just confirmed to me exactly how delusional he has become. He and his father spent far more than the child support. It just is astounding to me that my ex's parents could invest their money and time into such a crack pot scheme, knowing that their son was not supporting his children - THEIR grandchildren! Argh!!!

There isn't really any way for me to find out about his employment other than pumping the girls for info, which I will NOT do. They have enough to deal with, and I won't drag them into the middle of all this.

I've always made sure the girls have what they need. There have been times that it meant working two jobs. In some ways, that has worked against me, because he knows in the back of his mind that regardless of the hardship it imposes on me, I won't ever let the girls go without.

So for the time being, I'll just call the DCSS weekly. It's sad though. I don't want to spend the time or energy on chasing him around, that's time and energy that should be spent on my family. But I don't want him taking a free ride on my back either. After all he's only requested to pay 400.00 for TWO kids! That's nothing in today's world.

Thanks for your response. :) It's nice to have found a place to ask questions. And I've notice how much time you put into researching for people - you are to be commended!

I would follow him and find his job. Or go to his house with your children one day and snoop around for pay stubs. That's what I did, I sent a copy of his tax return to the child support office. This time they definetly had no problem finding his job. Don't let him get away with it. They only said my sons father had to pay $340 for 2 kids, but I just had his other child the amount will raise :) We work to hard for men to get off scott free. Also tell the county to check for any taxes he filed. Hope this will be of some help to you.
