Biological parents of “Baby X” reject compromise offer

Their attorney says “court offer is irrelevant”. Adoptive parents inclined
to accept but with some reservations.

The biological parents of “Baby X” have announced that they will reject the
court’s compromise offer.

“The court’s proposal is irrelevant and we intend to turn it down”,
Attorney Din Adani, who represents the biological parents, told NRG Maariv this
(Monday) morning.

It is still unknown whether the adoptive parents would accept the offer but
their lawyers said the couple is inclined to accept it but with some
reservations. The court will decide on the matter in the next several days.

The Tel Aviv District Court debating the “Baby X” case on Sunday asked both
parties to consider a new settlement offer that could greatly affect the case.
The judges, however, issued a gag order on its details.

In the last hearing that took place last Sunday, the court ruled that the baby
is to remain with his adoptive parents. During that hearing, the judges said,
“We would like to express our contempt from the use of the media by the two
sides, which hurts the child’s right to privacy”. Yesterday, the court
again urged all parties to keep the case in court.

The affair began a year ago, after a woman gave birth to a baby boy and decided
to hand him over for adoption after she separated from the child’s father.
Two months later, she regretted giving up her baby and turned to legal channels
in an attempt to reclaim legal guardianship of him, since the adoptive parents
refused to give up their custody. Both sides have been in and out of courts.
