I am in the middle of a messy divorce and custody battle. I started out
with one attorney and paid $3000 to just get through temporary orders
hearing. When she wanted an additional $1500 to answer the discovery, I
had to let her go and try to represent myself. I answered the discovery
and created a discovery of my own. I had a file with all my motions,
pictures, tapes, birth certificates, medical records and receipts etc.
Before I was to appear at final hearing, I had a lawyer friend of mine
look over my paper work to see if anything glaring was missed. At that
time I was advised to get another lawyer and was referred to one that
would take it over. I took my complete file to that attorney. After
the final divorce hearing I asked for my file back and all my originals
and was told that they had not yet made copies of things for their own
file and would give me a call in a couple of weeks.
I gave them another month and went to the office to see if it was ready
and they said that the file had been misplaced. Three months later and
they still haven't found it. What do I do now? This is in Texas.
