Backers say thanks for passing Baby Safe petition
Four Massachusetts communities stood tall, took a positive stance, and
resoundingly passed the exact same Baby Safe Haven home rule petition last
week.
On behalf of the citizens they represent, we would like to thank the town of
Billerica, as well as Wayland, Upton and the City of Marlboro, who voted in
town meetings and city council, by virtual unanimous votes, to say that child
welfare and safety does really matter, and dangerous to deadly newborn
abandonments must end by allowing scared and secretive women to safely
surrender a newborn baby to fire and police personnel at a fire house or
station, or to a hospital worker at a hospital. Last month, the Town of
Wilmington led the way north of Boston.
These advocates for children's safety have now placed the number of citizens of
the Commonwealth in cities and towns who have passed the Baby Safe Haven home
rule petition to over one million.
There are now one million voices saying Massachusetts truly cares for the life
of the next child who is in danger of a tragic abandonment. We must pass our
Baby Safe Haven law and join the now 97 percent of the US population who know
that Baby Safe Haven laws save lives.
