Susan ‘back home’ after brother’s 10 year search

A WOMAN has returned to her home town of Rochdale after meeting the brother she
never knew she had.
Geoff Phillips finally found his sister Susan after a 10-year search.
He was helped by Susan’s old friend, Linda Potter, who read about his efforts
to trace Susan in the Observer. She knew Susan had emigrated.
Geoff, who now lives in Weston-Super-Mare, flew out to Australia to meet Susan
with his partner Pat and half-sister Ann Kershaw, who still lives in Rochdale.
Susan has now returned to England with him for a holiday and is travelling
round the country seeing old friends.
She has also met an uncle called Jim that she never knew she had.
Susan, who grew up in Rochdale, said: "Geoff is a really nice guy who has some
lovely friends and he seems to know everyone in Weston-Super-Mare."
"We’ve missed out on a lot not growing up together and I don’t think
we’ll ever be able to catch up on everything."
"My father had me adopted because he thought that would be the best thing for
me and I had a wonderful childhood."
"But part of me thinks Geoff and I would have been better off if we had been
dragged up together."
"If I had found out about him when I was a child I would have tried to get my
adoptive parents to take him in as well."
"I had a lovely time seeing Linda Potter and I’ve had a great welcome from a
lot of people in Rochdale, but I got a shock when I saw Drake Street."
"My adoptive father owned houses there, but the area has deteriorated a lot."
Geoff said: "We had a fantastic time in Australia and it’s been great
spending some time with Susan."
"I hope she will be coming to England again soon and I hope to be able to visit
her in Australia as well."

A good friend will come and bail you out of jail . . . but, a true friend will
be sitting next to you saying, "Damn . . . that was fun!"
